Mowing
In the hot weather, always mow at the end of the day rather then at the start,
and ensure that the grass is well watered after cutting.
During an ongoing hot spell, mowing height should be raised to reduce stress and
avoid scalping.
Remember the sharper the blades on your mower the less stress you'll cause to
the grass, and the better your lawn will look. It can make a noticeable
difference.
Weed Control
If the infestation is not too bad, the best approach is probably removing them
by hand, with a hand tool or a small hoe or the like.
If you'd prefer to use a herbicide, make sure it is selective - i.e. it kills
just the weeds you want to get rid of. Talk to your local lawn professional for
more detailed advice
Fertilising
Lawns than were properly fertilised in spring should now need no further
fertilising until autumn, depending on conditions.
It's a bit late in the season now to use a slow release nitrogen organic
fertilizer except perhaps on a freshly laid lawn.
If your lawn is in somewhat poor condition, some fertilisers can be applied, but
they will most likely need to be well watered in. Talk to your local lawn
professional about your particular requirements.
