Common Lawn Management Mistakes
Many home lawn problems are due to correctable causes - and here are a few of
the more common ones…
Fertilising to Excess
Too much fertiliser may directly damage your grass or contribute to disease and
other lawn problems. Avoid fertilising too much, too often, excessively in
spring, or excessively in the shade. Refer to the Home Lawns section of our
Advisory Guide
A Site Too Shady
A perfect lawn in the shade is usually not a very realistic and options such as
paving, paths or groundcovers should be considered. But each site is different,
so speak to your local lawn professional about how to achieve the best effect
for you.
Wrong Grass Type Selection
Grass selection needs to match criteria of the site, including environmental
factors and site. The Home Lawns section of our Advisory Guide has some
information on appropriate grass types.
Poor Soil Preparation
The importance of thoroughly preparing the site prior to seeding cannot be
overemphasised. Please refer to our Advisory Guide for more information. It is
very important that soil conditions are just right.
Overly Aggressive Mowing
Simply raising the mowing height can improve the quality of many lawns and
reduce problems such as crabgrass. Refer to the Mowing section of the Advisory
Guide.
